They’re stupid. And a reminder that most people are about as altruistic as used car salesmen. If you’re doing that, you have the money to donate—you’re just looking to get something out of it; in the case of tumblr, more followers.

One could argue “it’s creating awareness” but, really, all it does is make the people who reblogged it feel better about themselves—as if they did something… and that’s assuming the original poster actually is going to donate. I’m not saying every penny doesn’t count, but why not make it a few of your own?

The girl who did the one that’s been incessantly popping up this morning has removed the original post from her tumblr but is thrilled about all her new followers. Take that as a sign of whatever.
